Package 2: Comprehensive Adult Echo Review

Earning the Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential, offered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International, requires passing a one-part Non-Invasive/Echocardiography Registry Examination which includes ultrasound physics and cardiac ultrasound concepts. This package which includes the Ultrasound Physics and Cardiac Hemodynamics eCourses provides a comprehensive didactic review of the concepts tested on the CCI Registered Cardiac Sonographer exam. After viewing the eCourses, candidates then use the Adult Echo Case Study and the Adult Echo ExamSim programs to determine their level of preparedness for their exams and streamline their exam prep.

Components include:

  • Ultrasound Physics eCourse
  • Cardiac Hemodynamics eCourse
  • Echocardiographer’s Pocket Reference 5e !NEW!
  • Adult Echo Case Study CD
  • Adult Echocardiography ExamSim Program

Ultrasound Physics
The Ultrasound Physics eCourse is designed to cover the content tested on the Physics portion of the CCI RCS and RVS exams. Concepts covered include ultrasound math principles, waves, attenuation, pulsed wave operation, transducers, system operation, Doppler, artifacts, bioeffects, contrast and harmonics, quality assurance, and hemodynamics. Acclaimed physics author Frank Miele, MSEE, delivers these lectures in an engaging and interactive format, relating ultrasound physics to the clinical aspects of what ultrasound professionals do on a day-to-day basis.

Ultrasound Physics course materials: Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation, 5e (course text)
This comprehensive ultrasound physics text is uniquely divided into three levels, making it appropriate for the neophyte as well as the advanced practitioner. In addition to expert content with over 800 color images and illustrations, online ‘5e Extras’ provides a Quiz Bank, supplemental exercises, and an Animation and Image Library with over 275 animations, images, and AVIs.
Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation Study Guide:
The Ultrasound Physics Study Guide provides a structured reference which outlines course text readings, conceptual questions, and exercises for each module. Not sure how to study for physics portion of the RVS exam? This guide will take the guess work out for you! Prepare with confidence.

Ultrasound Physics Viewing Time (including interactive questions): 22.5 hours
Ultrasound Physics Review Time (optional): 17 hours

Cardiac Hemodynamics eCourse
The Cardiac Hemodynamics eCourse is a seven-module series by Mark Harry, RDCS, RVT, REEGT designed to provide the foundation for acquiring a cardiac hemodynamic profile during the echocardiographic exam. The series begins with a module on Cardiac Pressures, followed by modules covering Diastolic Filling, Aortic Stenosis, Aortic Regurgitation, Subaortic Stenosis, Mitral Stenosis, and Mitral Regurgitation. Etiology and diagnostic criteria for each type of pathology is discussed with technical and system optimization tips integrated throughout the series. Mark emphasizes the importance of analyzing the patient’s clinical presentation with the hemodynamic data generated in order to deliver an accurate cardiac hemodynamic profile. A cardiac hemodynamic worksheet is provided to aid in calculating right-sided, left-sided and pulmonary pressures. Case presentations demonstrate the real-life application of the quantification techniques taught throughout the series.

Cardiac Hemodynamics Viewing Time (with interactive questions): 5 hours
Cardiac Hemodynamics Review (optional): 4.0 hours

Echocardiographer’s Pocket Reference Since 1993, The Echocardiographer’s Pocket Reference has been the primary reference for sonographers and all students of Echocardiography. Now in its 5th edition, this textbook has been completely redesigned to allow for integrated learning. Entirely written by sonographers, 24 chapters of Echocardiographic knowledge are available at your fingertips. This edition has added four additional chapters, including anatomy and physiology in cardiac development, cardiac medications, instrumentation, and the comprehensive echo exam. Designed as a reference text with the user in mind, educational content has been optimized with videos and color images that cover a broad spectrum of complex cardiac disease states. The author, Richard Palma (Richie), has done an excellent job providing all the basic concepts of echocardiographic evaluation of the heart in a format that is comprehensive and easy to access. Any student of Echocardiography can use this text as an educational tool and a primary reference text.

Adult Echo Case Study CD
This CD ROM contains 50 case studies designed to help prepare candidates for the video portion of the adult echocardiography certification exam. The author, Terry Reynolds of the Arizona Heart Institute and faculty member of Pegasus Lectures, has developed multiple-choice questions to complement each case study, creating an in-depth self-assessment program. There are more than 200 questions included. This collection of case studies is ideal to expand your library of clinical pathology as well as an excellent tool for assessing the clinical knowledge of students, sonographers, or potential employees. This CD is not MAC compatible.

Adult Echocardiography ExamSim Program

The Adult Echocardiography ExamSim program was developed to help sonographers and/or physicians determine their level of expertise in cardiac sonography and to prepare candidates for their credentialing/board exam(s).

Adult Echocardiography ExamSim Components include:
  • Interactive Test-Taking Section
  • Timed, full-length exam
  • Content weighted according to content outline
  • Comprehensive Review
  • Patented Intelligent Analysis Package to determine level of exam preparedness
  • 7.0 Continuing Education Credits (accepted by both CCI and ARDMS)

In addition to providing simulation of the ARDMS Adult Echocardiography examination, the program uses a patented algorithm to help the user determine their level of preparedness to sit for the exam.

The patented algorithm mathematically assesses not only performance based on question types, subject topics, and subject subtopics, but it also analyzes keystrokes, testing behaviors, and time parameters to identify precise areas of strengths and weaknesses. The score report can then be used to shorten study time by precisely indicating topics that require further study as well as identifying poor test-taking habits.

The review section is much more than just the correct answer to the questions. In review mode, the detailed explanations are included to make certain that the concept being tested is well understood. By using this invaluable ExamSim tool to prepare for your Adult Echo exam, you will have studied the key concepts, focused on your areas of weakness, and used your valuable study time efficiently and effectively.
