Lower Leg, Ankle, and Foot: Pathology (Part 1)
[0-0AFI11]

Beginning with a discussion of the sonographic appearance of Achilles tendinosis, peritendinitis, and tenosynovitis, images are presented demonstrating the pathology. The progression of Achilles tendon tears is revealed through ultrasound images. To aid in assessing the integrity of the Achilles tendon, the Thompson calf squeeze test is demonstrated. Dr. Wilde also covers the method by which to assess the pathology associated with peroneal tendon tears. Other topics include hypertrophic peroneal tuberosity, peroneus brevis split syndrome, peroneal tendon instability, subluxation and dislocation, intrasheath subluxation, and tibialis anterior tears and tendinosis. A section on ligament tears is included with demonstrations of dynamic maneuvers such as the anterior drawer test and talar tilt test with varus and valgus stress. This pathology section also covers medial gastrocnemius tears and muscle hernias.
